BAMM is built on warmth, respect, and a shared love for Bengali culture. These rules exist not to restrict, but to nurture the community we all want to be part of.
We are a community that values culture with curiosity and tradition with thinking. We gather to celebrate, debate, cook, sing, and care for one another — rooted in the traditions of Bengal and grounded in the warmth of Mid Missouri. — BAMM Founding Bylaws, December 2025
Treat every member — new or long-standing, student or elder — with dignity and kindness. Disagreements are welcome; disrespect is not. This is a space where every Bengali voice belongs.
Core ValueAnyone with Bengali heritage or connection — and friends of Bengali culture — are warmly welcomed. We celebrate diversity of origin, profession, age, and background. No one should ever feel like an outsider here.
InclusionBengali adda is sacred — we love spirited discussion. But keep conversations constructive. Personal attacks, trolling, or inflammatory remarks have no place here. Debate ideas, not people.
CommunicationIf you commit to volunteering, bringing food, or taking a committee role — follow through. All event donations must be submitted at least two weeks before the event. Repeated follow-ups are never pleasant for anyone.
ResponsibilityThe Core Group (Pitu Haldar, Sharmila Mitra, Sounak Chakraborty) was elected by the community to serve the community. Engage with them respectfully. Concerns should be raised through dialogue, not public conflict.
GovernanceFood, Decoration, and Cultural Committees have full autonomy in their domain. Do not interfere with their work uninvited. No one is permitted to linger around the stage or prompt the MC. Trust the process.
OperationsBefore posting photos or videos of community members online, consider their privacy. Avoid sharing images of children without parental awareness. Keep group communications — especially financial matters — confidential within the community.
PrivacyShow up for each other's milestones. Contribute to potlucks with love. Cheer for every performer — from the youngest student to the most seasoned artist. A community grows when its members celebrate one another freely.
Community SpiritBe the kind of community member you wish everyone else would be. Show up with warmth, leave with gratitude, and carry the spirit of Bengal wherever you go.
আমরা একটি পরিবার — এখানে সবার জায়গা আছে।
"We are a family — there is a place for everyone here."
We love Tagore as much as street food, Rabindra Sangeet as much as modern cinema. Curiosity is what keeps our culture alive.
We honour our traditions while questioning, evolving, and adapting them. Preserving culture means thinking about it — not just repeating it.
Spirited debate is in our DNA. Disagree passionately, but always with respect. The best adda ends with everyone still friends — and wanting more chai.
